See below for SwimRI-affiliated practice groups and other local adult practices and open-water swimming groups. See the linked websites or contact the listed coach/venue to verify the current schedule and fees. USMS membership is not required to attend practices unless specifically indicated.

GREATER PROVIDENCE AREA


Fall/Winter/Spring Indoor Pool @ East Providence Boys & Girls Club: Tues/Thur/Fri 5:30-7:00am & Sun 7:30-9:15am in 5-lane, 25-yard pool.

Summer Outdoor Pool @ Kendbrin Swim & Tennis Club in Riverside: Tues/Thur 5:30-7:00am & Sun 7:30-9:00am in 10-lane, 25-yard pool.

Summer Open Water @ Barrington Beach: Mon 6:00pm, Wed/Fri 5:30am & Sat 7:30am.

Fees: $135/quarter unlimited, $50/month unlimited, $40/mo weekday only, or $5 drop-in fee.

SwimRI-Pods Swimming @ Pods Swimming Aquatics Center in East Providence
Lap swimming is available every day. Masters Swimming lanes are available to SwimRI on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 7:00pm -- 5:30 to 6:00 informal warm up, 6:00 to 7:00 coach on deck using written sets provided by Frank McQuiggan. $25 monthly facility membership or $50 ($15 seniors, $40 couples) for 10 visits or $5 drop-in fee. This is a good, but lightly attended practice that we're trying to build. You may register onsite but are encouraged to sign the facility waiver and pay online.

SwimRI-Envious Swimming @ Cumberland High School

SwimRI-Bulldog Masters @ Bryant University in Smithfield

SwimRI-Lincoln @ Community College of Rhode Island (Flanagan Campus)
No Masters practices currently scheduled at this nice, six-lane, 25-yard pool, but we occasionally hold clinics or other events here. In the past we ran well-attended, $5 per swimmer practices most Saturdays 8:00-9:30am November through mid March with a rotating schedule of volunteer SwimRI coaches. NEWPORT/BRISTOL AREA


SwimRI-St. George's Masters @ St. George's School in Middletown
8-lane, 25-yard pool. Written workouts led by a USA-S/USMS registered coach on deck. All swimmers must be USMS-registered and complete the St. George's Swimming Waiver.

Tuesday/Thursday 5:45-7:15am. $250 for Sept-Dec. $250 for Jan-April. $125 for May-June. No official weekday drop-in policy, but generally speaking two drop-in visits are allowed to try out the program if you're thinking of joining.

Saturdays Nov through May 7:15-9:00am (separate fee): building opens ~6:45 a.m; pool opens at 7:00; structured practice begins at 7:15. $10 per workout purchased in increments of five (5) via check made out to "St. George's School." Paid Tues/Thurs swimmers may attend Saturdays at a reduced rate of $5 per workout. Cash, credit cards. New policy: Saturday USMS member single practice drop-ins are now allowed as a guest of a prepaid regular attendee.

SwimRI-NAC Swimming @ Newport Athletic Club in Middletown
Mon/Wed 6:00-7:15pm -- A small group (usually 2-8 swimmers) does swimmer-led practices in this six-lane, 25-yard pool. Indoors during fall/winter/spring (bubble on) and outdoors during summer (bubble off). Free to NAC members. Visitors can pay a $10 drop-in fee for scheduled Mon/Wed Masters practices or the $15 NAC day pass to use the pool at other times.

SwimRI-Newport Navy Lobsters @ Naval Station Newport
Starting January 2018, there will be coached practices Monday/Thursday 6:00-7:30am in two of the six lanes at the 25-meter John H. Chafee Pool. Base pass required. Arrangements can be made to accompany non-DoD civilians on base for swim practice.

SwimRI-Bristol @ Roger Williams University
Nice 25-yard pool with 8 wide lanes. From early April to early June, there are coached Masters practices most Saturdays from 7:15-9:00 a.m. ($5 drop-in fee). Some weekday mornings a small group does informal, self-coached workouts in the lap lanes during open swim. Community memberships available. Annual Masters Swimming events at RWU include the HAWKtoberfest Alumni/Masters Mini Meet in October and organized heats of the Speedo USMS One-Hour ePostal National Championship in January.


SOUTH COUNTY


SCY & SwimRI @ South County YMCA in Peace Dale
Sessions: Sept-Jan & Jan-May. Tues/Thurday practices from 6:00-7:20pm and 7:25-8:45pm, Sunday from 9:00-10:25am and 10:25am-11:45am. $183/session + Y membership. Program capped at 50 swimmers (25 early group, 25 later group). Max of 3 drop-ins per person per season, space permitting (no fee). Five-lane, 25-meter pool. The USMS-NEM members that attend these practices affiliate with the South County Y (SCY) or SwimRI (SWMR) workout group "team". They train together in the pool, and during summer most swim together in the open water with Narragansett Ocean Swimming Enthusiasts (see open-water groups below).


OTHER LOCAL SWIM PRACTICES FOR ADULTS

@ Attleboro YMCA, Pleasant Street Branch, Attleboro, MA. @ Brown University, Providence, RI. Beautiful LCM/SCY pool with multiple lane configurations. No formal masters program; however, SwimRI members occasionally arrange ad hoc swims via email or the SwimRI Facebook page. During summer this pool is often set up LCM. Click here to view the pool schedule. $10 per visit or $60/month pool/gym membership.

@ East Side/Mt. Hope YMCA, Providence, RI. Wed 6:30-7:30am in 5-lane, 25-yard pool. Monthly member & non-member rates for Masters practices. No drop-in rate, but you can attend once for free. Contact: Aquatic Director Sarah Mulcahey at (401) 521-0155.

@ McDermott Pool, Warwick, RI. Tue/Thur 8:00-9:00pm. Older LCM/SCY pool (usually set up short course). Coached workout with Ian Muir. $20/mo Masters fee + pool fee ($5/visit or $10-$30 monthly pool pass depending on your age and place of residence). For more info call (401) 738-2000 x6809.

LOCAL OPEN-WATER SWIMMING GROUPS

SwimRI-Triton Swimming a.k.a. Barrington Open-Water Nadadores (BOWN) @ Barrington Beach. Usual summer schedule: Mon 6:00pm, Wed/Fri 5:30am & Sat 7:30am. Contact: Albert Garcia at ag@kitearchitects.com.

Narragansett Ocean Swimming Enthusiasts (NOSE) and SSS Swimmers @ Narragansett Town Beach and other South County venues. Read the September 9, 2013 Providence Journal article. Contact Fred Bartlett at swimtrirunman@aol.com and ask to be added to his open-water email distribution list.

Usual summer schedule: Sunday 8am & 5:30pm, Mon/Wed 6pm (5pm after Labor Day), Fri 8:00am + early morning ad hoc swims (EMS). Daily/weekly updates available via Fred Bartett's core email list and EMS email list. Largest, most popular open-water group training swims in New England, with up to 80 people per swim during mid summer.
